SKILLS NEEDED IN THE WORKFORCE

Electrotechnology

In mid 2002 the Electrotechnology Task Force reported the initiatives undertaken through its Action Plan to address barriers to skills development.  Major achievements highlighted in the Task Force’s Final Report include:

  • greater engagement of industry in the training agenda; and
  • the creation and dissemination of high quality information about career opportunities in the industry through the electrotecfutures information pack, including through www.electrotecfutures.com.au.

The industry continues to build on its work from the National Industry Skills Initiative through activities such as:

  • the major Group Training pathways project which, from 2004 onwards, will provide employers and apprentices with new training opportunities and more flexibility to respond to changing industry needs;
  • raising business/industry awareness of school to work pathways arrangements  and careers information, and achieving employer involvement in associated VET in Schools programme activity; and
  • the industry sponsored NecaVET Training News,  the NECA National Apprentice Awards including the Secondary Student Award and an upskilling project for existing electrical workers.
